A JACOB-PARABLE ... ONE APPREHENDED

Genesis 28:10-19 Jacob was known of God in every detail even before he was in his mother’s womb. God placed in Jacob the desire for the high calling ... he had a destiny. This is evidenced by Jacob grabbing the heel (walk) of the first-born son. If you are seeking the ‘walk’ of the first-born Son, Christ-Jesus, then Jacob’s dealings will really encourage you. Now read on and see yourself in Jacob.

The Lord who controlled all of Jacob’s circumstances including the conniving of his mother and his running away from home found himself at a ‘certain place’. Whenever the word ‘certain’ is used it will always mean something specific was about to happen. Actually Jacob was running scared towards Haran — a dry and parched place, totally unaware that a new day was about to dawn in his life that would change everything.

We are at God’s ‘certain place’ at the beginning of a new day. Whether you know it or not — and Jacob certainly didn’t — this certain place is called Luz which means bending or curve. The stiff ‘I’ was now on course to becoming a ‘C’ for Christ.

Jacob was exhausted and simply laid down to rest, grabbing a stone to support his head fitting it snugly into this neck. He was asleep in no time which from God’s point of view, is when the controlling mind in man is no longer in control and thus allows Jacob’s heart-cry to be released.

Jacob dreamed ... Gen 28:12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder (staircase) set up on the earth, and the top of it reached (Hb. to lay hold of or touch) to heaven: and behold the angels (messengers ... one dispatched) of God ascending and descending on it. Desires, complaints, yearnings, disappointments and apprehensions all from deep within Jacob were being delivered by messengers of the Spirit to God at the top of the staircase. The inbuilt yearnings were now reaching God in heaven. God who was orchestrating all this even came to ‘the gate’ of heaven to receive such communications! These same messengers (angels) were now also bringing to Jacob some answers including hearing the voice of God speaking into his heart. “Jacob, you have inherited the blessings of communion with God and now it is turned into a specific promise’. Jacob was given a promise of real estate, a promise of unbelievable increase and then this was capped with a promise well beyond Jacob’s natural thinking ... namely that every family in the earth would be blessed through him. Jacob’s promise is ’alive and well’ for God is bring forth a people who will experience these promises.

Now see how God adds His assurance and insurance ... Gen 28:15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

Jacob was now wide awake — Wow! The Lord is here and my mind would not allow me to experience it. This is God’s House ... real ‘Church’ would you believe ... where Jacob experienced the silencing of his reasoning active mind and the releasing of his true heart-cry from with.

Jacob rose up as the new day dawned ... Jacob’s slumber was turned to a living testimony which would be ongoing and increasing. His natural eyes were closed so that his spiritual eyes could be opened.

This promise of God is underlined for us who have the same deep ‘there must be more’ yearnings by the picture of Nathaniel in John 1 where Jesus saw the angels ascending and descending (just like Jacob’s revelation) upon the apprehended sons of God who make up the Son of Man in this new day of fulfillment. Be still O mind and know that God’s communication is descending to you. §
