MARCH 13

GOD HAS PLANS FOR YOU

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

The Rotherham translation is excellent here: “For I know the plans which I am planning for you, declareth Yahweh, plans of welfare, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope.” How good are His thoughts towards us. “Many O lord my God, are Thy wonderful works, which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto Thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” (Psalm 40:5).

Why need we fear the future, when the Lord has plans for our good, to be unfolded throughout the ages to come? What hope! What expectation! There is no uncertainty in His plan and purpose. “The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand.” (Isaiah 14:24)

The scope of His victory is tremendous, we scarce can take it in, but it is written, “Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.” (Isaiah 40:4-5)

Then the universe shall be made anew, greater far than before the fall, when the Son puts all in the Father[s hand, and our God shall be all in all. Praise God for the magnitude of His redemption. But it is not all relegated to the far distant future, somewhere out there in the great beyonds. The fact of the matter is that it has already begun NOW, with the inworkings of His grace and love. His plans include all of our “todays,” so that while He has purposed times of testing and discipline, He has also purposed “seasons of refreshing.” (Acts 3:19)

Betimes we might feel that the bottom has dropped out of everything, for He strips us of all confidence in the flesh, but His thoughts are not of evil towards us, it is to give us “an expected end,” or literally, an end to the trial, and an expectation of His more abundant life.
