STRENGTHEN THE KINGDOM
“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”
(Proverbs 14:34)
In the midst of all the shakings and pressures of the times, when it appears
that “truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey,”(Isa.
59:15), we also read that, “The saints of the Most High shall take the kingdom,
and possess the kingdom for ever,” (Dan. 7:18). A very interesting facet of
truth is found in Young’s Literal translation of this verse, which brings out
that not only do the saints receive the kingdom, but, “THEY STRENGTHEN THE
KINGDOM unto the age”. For the word ‘possess' comes from a Hebrew word that
means ‘to strengthen’. In the measure that we are receiving His kingdom into our
lives now, and living that kingdom life, we are strengthening the force of that
kingdom in the earth, and it shall progressively gain the victory until it fills
the whole earth.
When Jeroboam and the ten tribes separated themselves from the other two tribes
of Israel, formed their own kingdom and soon went into idolatry, then, “out of
the tribes of Israel such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel came
to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers. So they
STRENGTHENED THE KINGDOM OF Judah”. This lasted for three years, as long as
“they walked in the way of David and Solomon”. (II Chronicles 11:16-17).
It is righteousness that exalts a nation – and it is God’s righteousness
established in the hearts of His people that will strengthen His kingdom in the
earth. We long for the day when “the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of
the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea,” ( Hab. 2:14). God has
purposed this, and ever the ages have run their course, it shall be fulfilled.
But it is with our eye toward the ultimates, that we pray now, “Thy kingdom
come, Thy will be done,” IN ME – for it is in this experiential inworking in
each of our individual lives, that we “strengthen the kingdom” that it might
grow and expand until “all shall know Me, from the least to the greatest,” (Heb.
8:11). May our ‘earthen vessels’ be filled with His righteousness now, and so
strengthen His kingdom in this our day.
