MUCH MORE
“Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through Him.” (Romans 5:9)
“The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men,” (Rom. 1:18). There is absolute certainty that the
energy forces of God will, in due time, be directed against all unrighteousness,
to bring an end to that realm, and to purge out all iniquity that has dwelt in
and defiled every creature. “That which beareth thorns and briers is rejected,
and is nigh unto cursing, whose end is to be burned,” (Heb. 6:8). Not for the
annihilation of the earth that bore the thorns and briers, but to purge out all
such, that a purified earth might bear good fruit to His praise.
The absolute certainty of the total eradication of all evil is irrefutable. All
sin shall be dealt with, all evil purged from the universe. But then Paul
introduces a new dimension, a MUCH MORE realm. If we are NOW JUSTIFIED by His
blood, if this cleansing is now effectively working in us, then we are saved
from wrath through Him. The certainty of being saved is even more sure than the
certainty of that wrath. This is the MUCH MORE that we have in Christ Jesus our
Lord. The heavy hand of wrath is based upon our sinful nature, which deserves
it, and shall receive it. But being saved from wrath is based upon His nature
being in us.
Forgiven our sins, the past is blotted out, and then comes the formation of the
new, becoming a new creation in Christ Jesus, sinless, pure. The new is ONENESS
IN HIS LIFE, conformed to His image, partaking of His divine nature, then it is
“no more I, but Christ liveth in me”. His indwelling is the security of being
saved from all wrath, for He delivers us from all that we are in the first Adam,
that we might become all that He is in the Last Adam.
Not as the old, shall be the new, not as the sin which did accrue,
But greater now shall be the score, His righteousness abounding more.
He reconciled, He gives new birth, till righteousness shall fill the earth.
