A WELL OF LIFE

“The mouth of the righteous is a well of life.” (Proverbs 10:11)

“Lo, He hath smitten a rock. And waters have gushed out. Yea, torrents have rushed along,” (Ps. 78:20, Rotherham). Surely this was fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ. He was The Rock that was smitten, and He is our Source of Living Water. But there is also a UNION WITH HIM, that includes the fellowship of His sufferings, and being made conformable to His death, so that we might also be a partaker of His resurrection, to then become a part of that LIFE-STREAM, “that in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed”.

“By His knowledge the depths are broken up,” (Prov. 3:20), and it has surely been the divine inworkings of God, imparting knowledge of things too precious to utter, that is breaking up the depths of our being, so that when it is time for the waters to gush forth, they will do so without restriction or hindrance. “Never a man spake like this Man,” it was said of Jesus, for He spoke with the wisdom of God. There is a message to be uttered that has never yet been spoken. John saw “a messenger fly in the midst of heaven, having the EVERLASTING GOSPEL,” (Rev. 14:6). When God has finished His processings, smitten the rock until all is subdued and one in His will, the waters will gush out like a torrent, truth shall be declared that will answer the cry of every longing heart, and righteousness shall be established in the earth.

“The waters saw Thee, O God. The waters saw Thee. They were in birth-throes, yea, the resounding deeps were stirred,” (Ps. 77:16, Rotherham). This is far more than just containing some water in a hewn out cistern. It is far more than digging a well, and then laboriously drawing out that water, precious and pure as it might be. There are the birth-throes of the FOUNTAINS, deeps are being stirred, broken up, that there might be a true SPRINGING UP, a free-flowing. “Out of thy innermost being shall flow rivers of living water,” (John 7:38). Quickening streams of His divine life!
