THE ELEMENTS SHALL MELT

“The heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.” (2 Peter 3:10-11)

Suffice it for the natural application to say there is the possibility of nuclear warfare, combined with radiation from the ionosphere, solar flares, etc., fulfilling this Word if Father should so ordain. If it be the “literal” there still is no need for fear, for there follows the promise, so that “we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” And it is clearly written, “the meek shall inherit the earth.” He shall fulfill all in His own time and purpose.

But there is a spiritual application which zeros in upon the elect who are now in their transition process, passing from the old into the new, from glory to glory, as the Spirit leads onward. Many Bible scholars have used the term “heaven and earth” to speak of our minds, and our bodies.” Praise God, there is a renewing of our mind, and there shall be the changing of our bodies, so that we are not ruled by the lusts and passions thereof, but all is made new in the Spirit of God. Yes, until the lion and the lamb shall lie down together in peace within us, and we are not the housing of internal conflict.

The word “elements” which shall melt, is the Greek word “stoicheion,” used seven times in the New Testament, as meaning rudiment, or first step. “But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?” (Gal. 4:9). Learning to know the inner leading of the Spirit, and returning no more to the beggarly elements of this world. Let the old be dissolved, melted away, there is a new realm in Christ which abides.
