THE PRESENT ISSUE – QUALITY

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.” I Corinthians 3:13

While this world’s system majors on volume and quantity, we find that God’s inworkings are just the opposite, for right now He is majoring on QUALITY. The issue is not “how are we going to save the whole world”. God through Christ has already secured this, “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself,” (II Corinthians 5:19). God so loved the world that He gave His Son for the whole world – the length, breadth, height, depth, all is encompassed by the love of God, which secures the total for Himself. He shall “bring forth judgment unto victory”. He shall be ALL in ALL.

While, perhaps, we cannot grasp the full portent of this, and it staggers the imagination as to how all things shall eventually be subdued under Him, nevertheless we know that God’s purpose will not fail, He shall fulfill all the counsel of His will. So be it! Therefore, the present issue is not one of quantity, but the quality, that even as He apprehends unto Himself a firstfruits, these might be brought into perfection, unto “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ”, (Ephesians 4:13). The quality-standard is Christ, and all must be brought into conformity to Him, perfect, as He is perfect.

It is also seen that fire is used to test and critically appraise the character and worth. Or, as Wuest Expanded translation gives, “the test for the purpose of approving it should meet the required specifications, the test being to determine what sort of work it is as to quality.”

The quality of our obedience, submission to His will, is revealed by the fiery trials, the testings, the pressures God brings to bear upon us. Marvelous workings of God to bring forth a people in whom He is well pleased – quality that redounds to His praise, for it is HIS life, HIS love, HIS glory that shall be revealed through those of whom it is written, “As He is, so are we in this world”, (I John 4:17.
