MAKE READY A PEOPLE

“And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1:16-17

One of the essential needs in the life of the believer is the matter of right priorities – to know what is God’s purpose for this day. And, what is His plan for me individually. There are many of the Lord’s children who are willing to spend themselves in doing many good and needful things, but God would work into them a sense of His priority.

The prophet Hosea said of Ephraim, “Strangers have devoured his strength and he knoweth it not; yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth it not,” (Hosea 7:9). Devoured his strength, exhausted his vitality, hastened the marks of old age, till worn out and spent, there was no strength to face the real issues of the day.

David had that sense of priority, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple,” (Psalm 27:4f). To become “singleized” to His definite purpose for our day, that we might be fitted and prepared for His Kingdom.

So much of what God is doing in individual lives seems to be a silent and secret preparation. Through the sufferings and pressures, bringing each one into stability in Him where they cannot be shaken, into the truth, which cannot be destroyed. There are very practical in workings, involved in the nitty-gritty of every day living, which are used to bring us into conformity to His laws. So processed by God that they have surrendered their own will into His will, indeed, they are able to say, “I delight to do Thy Will, O God.”

Make ready a people for the Lord,
Disciplined, trained, in one accord,
Ready and waiting to do His will.
Of first priority – hear His voice,
What is His plan? What is His choice?
His purpose we would now fulfill.
