SHEILA’S [J-A-T] TIDBITS   No.18 …       (June 26th. 2015)

Beds come in many sizes: cradles - cribs- short beds - bunk beds - camp beds - single beds - double, queen and king beds, even circular beds  and also doll’s beds.  I was a ‘PKand  I AM REMINDED of my father  who had special messages for children. One message was based  on (Isaiah 28:20) ... For the bed is shorter than a man can stretch himself on it and the covering narrower than he can wrap himself in it. (KJV).  To be honest, now 70+ years later, I do not remember the lesson he was teaching from the illustration. I can see him very clearly in my mind’s eye, standing in the pulpit with the doll sized hospital bed.  He also had a long-legged soft doll and while he was talking he was trying to fit the doll in the bed … but the legs would keep popping out of the end and he had a covering with which  he was trying, unsuccessfully to cover the doll. I still  remember the children, teachers and adults all roaring with laughter. Oh my, even as I write this, I am understanding a very important fact about my Dad. I have just recalled that when he was in a denominational bible college he became ill and was bedridden for three months.  He spent this time in seeking the Lord for some answers. He was troubled about some of the doctrines he was hearing.  Whilst on his bed he wrote to various well known bible teachers asking for their help in understanding what the Bible was actually saying.  After Dad had passed on,  I found a letter from F.B.Meyer answering Dad’s concern and I also found the sermon that he had BOLDLY given at the Bible College.  In it he explained why he was changing to a college he believed was more scripturally based. He obviously found ‘the bed’ too small and looked for one upon which he could stretch!          God bless you, love Sheila.
